‘Pranayam plays a key role in keeping emotions in check’. According to him, consistent practice of yoga and meditation for the last 20 years helped him become a go-getter.

Experience the bliss of stillness by shutting the restless mind for a while and strengthening it from within. All it takes is just 20 minutes of your time, says Dinesh Ghodke, one of the directors of Sri Sri University and senior faculty of the Art of Living (AOL).

An IIT graduate, a soccer player, a gymnast, an athlete and a yoga instructor, Dinesh has many facets to focus on. And he knows pretty well how to multitask with ease and efficiency. In an interview to The Hindu, during his visit to the city, he shares how meditation and yoga left a tremendous impact on his life.

“Techniques like ‘pranayam’ and yoga asana enhance your positive energy. A few minutes spent practising these exercises make the rest of your day enriching. The happier you are as a person, the better will be your energy levels. Also, deep breathing techniques calm your mind. When your thoughts are composed, your productivity increases,” clarifies Dinesh.

According to him, consistent practice of yoga and meditation for the last 20 years helped him become a go-getter. “My continuous practice of yogic breathing helped me score well in academics and shift equal focus on various aspects that I am passionate about. Things that took me seven hours to absorb now takes less than three hours. That’s the magic of meditation. You can stretch beyond your limitations without any extra effort,” explains Dinesh.

Emotions influence the breathing pattern and ‘pranayam’ plays a role to keep them in check. “When the mind is filled with stress and negative thoughts, they affect us immensely. Meditation and breathing exercises help you flush the toxins from your mind. You tend to become creative, more productive and healthier. Instead of people affecting you, you start influencing people in a positive manner,” he concludes.
